You can turn it into a cutting activity too by letting your kids cut strips of tissue paper into squares while you get the contact paper set up. It takes work to get those little tissue paper squares separated and placed (sometimes even re-positioned a few times) on the contact paper. These tissue paper rainbow collages are also a fun way to work on fine motor skills. Related: Bring nature indoors with this Nature Suncatcher Craft your kids will love! That’s what’s great about this rainbow craft, toddlers and preschoolers can create how ever they want and it turns out beautifully. The youngest toddler in my group was unconcerned with the color sequence and just made a rainbow collage. We didn’t have any purple tissue paper so ours stops at blue but the girls didn’t seem to mind. My preschoolers were very focused and worked diligently to get their rainbows in the right color order. I usually cut my contact paper a bit larger so that I can use the excess to stick it to the window.Īfter your frame is in place let your little ones create their stained-glass rainbow art by placing squares of tissue paper onto the contact paper in a rainbow pattern. You broke it down so it was understandable! And I love your book! I got it yesterday! Can't wait to start practicing! It's so much fun!!!!! Thank you Karen! I never though I could do faces. I ordered your Fun Fab Faces book and loved it! I was having a little trouble getting the noses I wanted and now it's easy! Also, I love how you stressed how important having the three tones in your drawing is. I am really at the beginning of my art journey and I hope to learn as much as I can. I have recently retired and finally have the time to do some of the art that I have loved since I was in school. What Fans Are Saying Karen, you are absolutely fabulous! You make me feel like I can draw anything. "Karen is flipping hilarious and she's very real.I like the way she teaches in a way that really gives you confidence, whether you're a beginner or advanced there's always something new to learn!"

If you haven't seen my video about how to know when to use Mod Podge vs Matte Medium - it's super helpful! If you're a mod podge fan (like me!), don't worry - I have plenty of times I reach for that as well, just not usually for my first layer. I know I can sound like a broken record here - but it's so awesome for mixed media collage -especially if you plan to paint with acrylics on top, or even think you might go that route. I'm using matte medium for my adhesive- for SO many reasons.

Tissue paper is REALLY porous, so it's fantastic for collage because the adhesive really soaks in.
